A Luxury Retreat
The Sandy Feet Retreat is a striking and contemporary build in an incredible location, offering a sophisticated beach retreat in summer and a cosy bolthole with roaring wood buners in winter. Based on the concept of a retreat, where serenity, contemplation and restoration are foremost, the house will accommodate up to 7 guests in splendid isolation with all the creature comforts of a luxury hotel.
Seafront Garden & Sun Deck
Guests enter the house at ground level via the dining kitchen, through 2 large sliding windows, which open to create an indoor/outdoor space. These give access to a terrace with bespoke outdoor furniture, a built-in barbecue grill, enclosed beach front garden and raised sunbathing deck with panoramic sea views.
Sun Loungers & Hammock
The outdoor areas are ideal for alfresco cooking and dining, reclining on a sun lounger with a glass of something chilled, or just snoozing in the hammock under the sun deck.
The Boat House
For those looking for a more active holiday we provide a complimentary kayak, stand up paddleboard (SUP), bodyboards, surfboards and life vests.
Open Fire Pit
The crackling open fire pit is a magical place to gather around at the end of each day to socialise, toast marshmallows or simply gaze at the stars. Outdoor blankets and a guitar are also provided.
Ground Floor Layout
The ground floor is divided into 3 main areas. There's an open-plan dining kitchen, changing area/wet room and a snug. Guests can use these as individual private spaces, or open up the ground floor to feel more connected.
Dining Kitchen
The kitchen is bespoke, designed by our architect and built-by-hand locally. It is equipped with all the latest mod-cons, a large oak dining table with views overlooking the sea and a wood burner to light on cool winter mornings or evenings.
Changing Area & Wet Room
Beyond the dining kitchen there is a downstairs changing area inc. a walk-in wet room with double showers (perfect for sandy kids), plus a cloakroom/WC, washing machine and tumble dryer.
The Snug
To the rear of the ground floor there is a small but beautifully proportioned plywood-lined snug. Here you can retreat indoors, relax on the squishy sofa or floor mattresses, light the second wood burner, watch Netflix, Amazon Prime Video or Freeview, listen to Spotify on the Sonos system, play board games, or simply enjoy lazy afternoon naps on the day bed.
Upper Deck Layout
When in need of sleep or privacy guests can head upstairs via the blackened steel-clad steps to the first-floor, which has 3 bedrooms (1 with en-suite) and a house bathroom.
House Bathroom
The house bathroom/wet room has double walk-in showers, enclosed by frosted glass walls on 3 sides, which illuminate at night to create a stunning light feature.
Rear Double Bedroom
This bedroom is particularly quiet, tucked away at the back of the property. It has a king size bed with views of the adjacent nature reserve and bird hide. The silence here is broken only by waves breaking on the shore and faint murmurings of the surrounding wildlife and fauna.
Little Bunk Room
Designed specifically with children in mind, this small bedroom has a bunk bed with 2 single mattresses, plus a pull-out/trundle bed that fits neatly underneath for a 3rd child.
Master Suite
The magnificent sea views are best enjoyed from the master suite, where you are perfectly positioned to watch the sun rise over the ocean from the comfort of your king size bed.
Bath With Sea Views
The master bedroom also benefits from an en-suite bathroom featuring a bathtub with ocean views, the perfect place to soak for hours while taking in the incredible scenery.
Hanging Bubble Chair
Designed by Eero Aarnio in 1968 and featured in many movies, music videos, and celebrity photo shoots, the bubble chair which hangs from the ceiling in the master bedroom is the perfect place to sit and enjoy views across the sea, or watch the sun set over the fields behind the house.
2021 RIBA Awards
For 50 years the The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) awards have championed and celebrated the best architecture in the UK. We are proud to announce that The Sandy Feet Retreat won a 2021 RIBA Award.
"Perfect place to get away from the crowds." BBC
All furniture, fittings, lighting, even the cutlery, was chosen by the architect. Every detail, large and small, has been considered carefully to compliment the house and surrounding landscape. The end result is an exceptionally well-crafted holiday rental, with everything you need for a stylish staycation by the sea.
From the hand built kitchen - to the wood panelling in the snug - to the glass box that forms the house bathroom - to several pieces of furniture - the house is mostly bespoke. The outside dining table and seating, for example, were designed by Jonathan Hendry and made locally from sustainably sourced kiln dried larch.
53.2607° N, 0.3250° E
The Sandy Feet Retreat is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) within a Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve, a 60 acre haven of wildlife. Spot rabbits hopping past the garden fence, birds of prey scouting the sand dunes, harbour porpoises and grey seals in the water.
Round & Round House
Designed as a bird hide, this contemporary piece of architecture is 200 metres from the house, with views out to sea and inland over coastal grazing marsh to the Lincolnshire Wolds. A great place to watch wildlife, especially conservation priority birds... plus swans, ducks, geese, swallows and other large flocks of migrant birds arriving and departing overhead.
Best Sunrises In The UK?
Getting up at the crack of dawn might not be everyone's cup of tea, especially on holiday, but watching the upper limb of the sun rise over the ocean horizon from the comfort of your bed is a unique and special experience. The house faces due east with uninterrupted views over the North Sea, so the sunrises are epic.
Starry, Starry Night
Got a telescope? Bring it with you or use the house binoculars and enjoy some of the best stargazing in the UK. When there is no bright moon or clouds in the sky, there are more visible stars than grains of sand on the beach! You may also see chains of SpaceX satellites running vertically over the house, out to sea. Perfectly aligned in formations of 50-60 satellites. Just look up.
Orange Moon
A new full Moon rises over the North Sea opposite the house every 29.5 days. The lunar surface is often clearly visible, covered in craters from meteorite strikes. The Moon is also likely to be a brilliant orange colour when it's close to the ocean horizon. That's because you're seeing it through much more of the Earth's atmosphere than when it's high in the sky.
England Coast Path
The first Lincolnshire stretch of the England Coast Path is now open, a 16 mile route stretching from Skegness to Mablethorpe. It is part of a planned 2,700 mile path along the entire English coastline by Natural England and passes right in front of The Sandy Feet Retreat. Pick up or download an OS Map and go explore the beautiful countryside, literally on our doorstep.
Sand Dunes & Salty Air
The dunes are a wonderful feature of our seaside location, with wild flowers, and even wilder children jumping off them! They began forming in the 13th century and the process continues, as very fine sand is blown off the beach before being stabilised and held in place by native plants. The dune system extends for miles on both sides of the house.
The Cloud Bar
This place may not serve alcohol but it does offer pretty epic cloud spotting, just 300 metres from the house. Designated the world's first official cloud spotting area by The Cloud Appreciation Society, find cloud menus to help identify clouds, mirrors to reflect the sky and specially designed cloud viewing seats to enjoy the vast open skies of Anderby Creek.
North Sea Observatory
Head onto the beach, turn right and walk for 2 miles to this contemporary piece of architecture and purpose-built marine observatory. Here you'll find information and exhibitions on our area's rich natural history, plus an art space and The Seascape Café serving great breakfasts, freshly brewed tea/coffee, lovely lunches and delicious cakes. They also do supper clubs and yoga here.
Anderby Beach Café
Delicious breakfasts, home cooked lunches and snacks inc. gluten-free and vegan options, plus a licensed bar, beer garden and outdoor children's play area. Just 400 metres from the house.
Popa’s Kitchen & Bar
Newly refurbished with a licensed bar and extensive menu serving excellent food all day inc. Sunday lunches. Only 600 metres.

For all our travelling souls.
Recycled Glass
Green and clear recycled glass particles were mixed with pigmented lime to render the exterior walls. By converting this waste into reusable material, the house gains extra protection from the elements. In addition, when sunlight catches the glass it shimmers, providing a unique and attractive aesthetic. Recycled glass also reduces the demand for sand (currently 2m tonnes p.a. are extracted, depleting a natural resource).
Natural Materials
Many of the finishes and pieces of furniture are composed of natural materials. The walls and ceiling in the kitchen, for example, are covered in clay. An abundant raw material, this 100% natural product requires no painting. It is environmentally inert and non-toxic, as well as breathable and humidity and temperature regulating.
Green Energy
We purchase energy only from 100% renewable suppliers.
Air-Source Heating & Cooling
Our underfloor heating system uses air for fuel, which is about as renewable as it gets. It works by transferring heat absorbed from outside (even in temperatures as low as -15°C) to water, which is pumped through tubes embedded in the floors to maintain the house at a comfortable temperature. In the summer it works in reverse, as a cooling system. A bit like a fridge. Our air-source heating system also heats the water, eliminating the need to burn and waste propane, reducing our CO2 emissions.
Wood Burners
Our Jøtul wood burning stoves are highly efficient. We also only use kiln dried wood supplied locally from sustainable sources, making these appliances a carbon neutral way of heating the house.
Thermal Insulation
There’s double glazing throughout and a significant amount of above requirement insulation in the walls, floors and ceilings.
Internet of Things (IoT)
Many of the household appliances and amenities inc. the heating and hot water can be controlled and monitored remotely using wireless reporting systems for predicting maintenance and to analyse energy usage and reduce waste.
Low Energy Bulbs
Every individual light bulb on our premises is low energy-consumption.
Class-A Appliances
All appliances are Energy Class-A efficient and star rated, designed to conserve electricity and water inc. the dishwasher, freezer, refrigerator, oven, washing machine and tumble dryer. To limit use of the tumble dryer there’s an outside washing line, so you can air dry wet clothes.
Green Housekeeping
Our 100% cotton linen is washed using eco-friendly products by a small company in Louth, which not only supports a local business but also reduces our carbon footprint. We use biodegradable cleaning products where possible.
Waste Recycling
We encourage guests to recycle at least 80% of waste in accordance with the local recycling options available. From glass bottles and plastic packaging to cardboard and paper. There are clearly labelled bins on site for different types of waste and a bottle bank 500 metres away in the car park.
Wormery
To further reduce waste being hauled to landfill there's a wormery-based composting bin, which breaks down organic food matter into nutrient rich soil and fertiliser. Young children especially love this!
Refillable Toiletries
We're committed to providing you with the most luxurious toiletries in the most environmentally friendly way, which is why we provide Aesop hand wash in refillable bottles. Nothing is thrown out.
No Single Use Plastics
There's virtually no single use plastic on the premises.
Local Food Suppliers
The produce that goes into our welcome pack is sourced mainly from local farms and artisans, enabling us to heavily limit the food miles of things we serve you. Our underlying ethos is a ’25 mile menu’.
Tote Shopping Bags
We provide canvas tote bags for our guests, eliminating the need for plastic supermarket carrier bags.
Filtered Drinking Water
Our tap water is safe to drink, though we understand that some guests prefer filtered water, so we provide you with the means to filter it yourselves, to reduce unnecessary packaging waste.
Low Water Usage
All bathrooms have lo-flow, dual flush toilets to save water.
Transport Cashback
We offer a 5% refund to guests who have reduced their carbon footprint by travelling to The Sandy Feet Retreat via bus, train, bike or foot, rather than by car.
Bike Rental Service
There’s lockable bike storage on site, so bring your wheels! We can also recommend a very good local bike rental service that will deliver and pick up from the house.
Electric Vehicle Charging
There’s an electric vehicle charging point in the public car park approx. 500 metres away.
Nesting Boxes
We have nesting boxes in the garden for birds and bats, plus an insect house to encourage bees and other insects to live and nest in the garden.
Wildflowers & Plants
We’ve sown wildflowers to encourage pollinators, beneficial insects and wildlife… and planted drought resistant native grasses to cut down on unnecessary watering.
Beach Clean Scheme
There’s a brilliant beach clean scheme available to all guests... look for the litter pick-up tools and signage outside the Anderby Beach Café. This is a great way to educate (especially kids) anyone who's staying with us about plastic pollution.
Recycled Marketing Materials
Our business and welcome cards are made from recycled paper.
Local Community
We support our community by contributing to local wildlife charities and also the micro-economy by giving local products and services absolute priority.
Behind tufts of marram grass and rolling dunes, directly on the beach with stunning panoramic sea views, sits The Sandy Feet Retreat. One of only a few genuine beach houses and holiday homes available to rent on the English coast, the word most used to describe this seaside escape is simply ‘Wow!’
Forget your shoes, forget the news. We're an off-the-grid retreat. An exclusive and private holiday rental, surrounded by nature, a place to disconnect. Feel the sand between your toes and salt in your hair. Enjoy the ultimate experience in sustainable luxury seaside living, from watching the sun rise over the ocean from the comfort of your bed, to strolling along one of the most beautiful, unspoilt beaches in England.
Anderby Creek beach is a true gem, a Narnia, where untouched sands lie as fresh as snow, and vast stretches of marram grass dunes hide an abundance of wildlife. It is one of the greatest tracts of untouched beach wilderness remaining in our country today and one of England's finest and best kept secrets. So.... Sssshhhh!
Over 10 miles of pristine sand backed by traditional coastal dunes. Stroll, jog, beachcomb, sunbathe, build sandcastles, even ride horses on the beach. Whatever the weather, it is the perfect place to disconnect and take a breather from everyday life.
The Wildlife
The Sandy Feet Retreat is located in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) within a Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust nature reserve, a 60 acre haven of wildlife. Spot rabbits hopping past the garden fence, birds of prey scouting the sand dunes, even the occasional frolicking porpoise or dolphin. Five more nature reserves can be found within walking distance, making this a true nature-lovers paradise. During the winter months, thousands of grey seals can also be seen up-close on the nearby beach of Donna Nook, giving birth to their pups.
The Privacy
There's an air of 'endless summer' living on Anderby Creek beach, helped by warmer weather and a relaxed lifestyle, although it's a lovely place all year round, including in winter. Whether it's a BBQ on the terrace, or, if the weather comes in, wine and board games around one of the 2 wood burners, The Sandy Feet Retreat is the perfect seaside retreat. Our location is safe and secluded, away from crowds.
The Beach
Put Anderby Creek beach on your bucket-and-spade list. It's one of the UK's best beaches, and regularly features in the press, yet it's virtually unknown. No need to fight crowds of sunbathers or queue for ice creams or car parks either. All the entertainment is at hand on your very own beach, often deserted, and literally on your doorstep (no, we mean... 'literally'). Perfect for free-range kids, beach lovers, watersport and fitness junkies, artists, photographers, walkers etc.
The Ocean
Whether paddling, fishing, kayaking, surfing, or just listening to waves lapping the shore, our immediate proximity to the ocean adds to the magic of this special location. If you're feeling brave, a heroic morning plunge into the North Sea is guaranteed to transform you from a groggy mass of city fuddle into a fully awake human-being; splashing, squealing and alive. Dripping on the sand afterwards, tingling all over, the natural high quickly kicks in. Forget the coffee, this is the real deal! In an instant you’ll want to dive back in.
The Bird Hide
The Round & Round House is another contemporary piece of architecture, just 200 metres away, with views out to sea and inland over grazing marsh to the Lincolnshire Wolds. A great place to watch wildlife, especially conservation priority birds... Fieldfares, Oystercatchers, Sanderlings and Shorelarks are just some of the birds which can be spotted... plus swans, ducks, geese, swallows and other large flocks of migrant birds arriving and departing overhead.
The Sunrise
Getting up at the crack of dawn might not be everyone's cup of tea, especially on holiday, but watching the upper limb of the sun rise over the ocean horizon from the comfort of your king size bed is a unique and special experience. The house faces due east with uninterrupted views over the North Sea, so the sunrises are epic.
The Night Sky
Got a telescope? Bring it with you or use the house binos and enjoy some of the best stargazing in the UK. As the human population becomes more urbanised, man-made lights obscure our view of the stars and other celestial features. Not in Anderby Creek though. Far away from human settlement, when the weather is good, stars, planets and the Milky Way shimmer with incredible clarity in clear, dark night skies. Sometimes there are more visible stars than grains of sand on the beach! You may also see chains of SpaceX satellites running vertically over the house, out to sea. Perfectly aligned in formations of 50-60 satellites. Just look up.
The Orange Moon
A new full Moon rises over the North Sea opposite the house every 29.5 days. We hope you're lucky enough to experience this during your stay. The lunar surface is often clearly visible, covered in craters from meteorite strikes. The Moon is also likely to be a brilliant orange colour when it's close to the ocean horizon. That's because you're seeing it through much more of the Earth's atmosphere than when it's high in the sky.
The England Coast Path
We're a wonderful rambler's retreat too, with some cracking coastal walks. The first Lincolnshire stretch of the England Coast Path is now open, a 16 mile route stretching from Skegness to Mablethorpe. It is part of a planned 2,700 mile path along the entire English coastline by Natural England and passes right in front of The Sandy Feet Retreat. Pick up or download an OS Map and go explore the beautiful countryside, literally on your doorstep.

Here you'll find information and exhibitions on our area's rich natural history, plus an art space and The Seascape Café serving great breakfasts, freshly brewed tea/coffee, lovely lunches and delicious cakes. They also do supper clubs and yoga here.
The Anderby Beach Café
Delicious breakfasts, home cooked lunches and snacks inc. gluten-free and vegan options, plus a licensed bar, beer garden and outdoor children's play area. Just 400 metres from the house.
The Kitchen & Bar (at Popa’s)
Newly refurbished with a licensed bar and extensive menu serving excellent food all day inc. Sunday lunches. Only 600 metres.
"Be free and wild as the sea."
With some of the world’s most idyllic beaches paying a heavy price for the world population’s plastic use, we are taking steps to reduce our own environmental impact.
Every aspect from the towels to the toilet paper to the furniture and general decor has been carefully considered and made as sustainable as possible. We aim to offer a luxury experience without sacrificing our local ecology.

Our tap water is safe to drink, though we understand that some guests prefer filtered water, so we provide you with the means to filter it yourselves, to reduce unnecessary packaging waste.
Low Water Usage
All bathrooms have lo-flow, dual flush toilets to save water.
5% Cashback
We offer a 5% refund to guests who have reduced their carbon footprint by travelling to The Sandy Feet Retreat via bus, train, bike or foot, rather than by car.
Bike Rental Service
There’s lockable bike storage on site, so bring your mountain bike, road racer or BMX! We can also recommend a very good local bike rental service that will deliver and pick up from the house.
Electric Vehicle Charging
There’s an electric vehicle charging point in the public car park approx. 400 metres away.
"The most stylish, relaxing, eco-conscious staycation ever."
Slice of Malibu
The properties all faced the sea with uninterrupted views. No traffic, no people, no arcades or bars. In the middle of a nature reserve. Just the most perfect setting for a beach house. Lincolnshire's very own little Malibu... who'd a thought!?
Proper Beach Houses
We walked and talked about how wonderful it would be to own one of the houses, and how rare it was to see genuine and authentic beach properties, connected so naturally to the environment.
For Sale
And then we saw it.
A 'For Sale' sign.
Uh oh.
The Balcony
It was the last house on the beach, completely run down. Falling down actually. It had subsidence and the day before the balcony had quite literally fallen off (which proved useful in the subsequent sales negotiation).
We Haggled (& Haggled)
Two weeks later, after much haggling with the toughest 80 year old vendor you could ever meet, we had our offer accepted and started looking for an architect to help us rebuild the house.
Old Toilet Block
We found a lot of press coverage about a local architect called Jonathan Hendry. He'd designed a beach hut clad in red-stained timber on top of an old toilet block, a few miles down the road in Sandilands. It was so different, we just knew he was perfect for our project.
The A-Team
Jonathan agreed to help and together we embarked on a design and build project with a wonderful team of local builders at J.H.A. Winter & Sons Ltd, who one quality trade at a time turned his vision into a reality.
March 2020
The house was finally completed in March 2020. The end result is more than just a building. From the moment you walk in and get settled, you breathe. You disconnect. You relax. There’s an emotional bond. It's a wonderful place just to be. And a very hard place to leave.
It all started back in 2016 when we read an article online about Britain's best undiscovered beaches, which featured Anderby Creek. We'd never heard of it but on the back of this article we booked a week's holiday in one of the local holiday homes.
On the first day of our holiday we headed to the beach and were blown away. It was pristine, wild and beautiful with not a soul in sight. Empty in all directions as far as the eye could see with vast open skies, backed by miles of dunes... and 13 beach houses!

"Swerve the crowds and enjoy lungfuls of salty air."
Ever wondered why the ocean has a calming effect? Well, the prescription for a healthier lifestyle may be as simple as a walk on the beach. 'Blue Mind' describes the mildly meditative state characterised by calm, peacefulness and a sense of general happiness and satisfaction that washes over you as you stand by open water.
In this uncertain world where so many of us also experience daily exhaustion, screen fatigue and anxiety, which in turn can lead to chronic illness, insomnia and often on an over-reliance on drugs and alcohol to unwind, Blue Mind offers a connection to a deep health and wellbeing boost that taps into ancient neural pathways.
Research into neuroconservation suggests that being near the ocean has the potential to alleviate cognitive conditions and physical ailments. This discovery, which is now only understood thanks to cutting-edge science, offers a new insight into the human psyche and healing powers of water.
To tap into your Blue Mind, close down the screens, log out, stand up and head outside to the ocean. The benefits that stem from the sights, sounds, smells and even the energy of the waves is as easy as just being there.
Your breathing and heart rate will slow. Your mind will clear. Your brain will switch into a different mode where creativity, insight and connections with others are enhanced. You will breathe more deeply and relax. Tapping into your Blue Mind is a natural form of self-care from which you can immediately reap rewards.
All you need is the ocean. Simply sit on the beach, stroll, exercise, play or even just take time out for a long luxurious soak in our bathtub overlooking the sea. Door locked, lights out, bath salts, candles, perhaps a glass of wine. Either way, we are the perfect escape. A place to disconnect, to reconnect, and enjoy the beauty and calm of our blue planet.
"When I grow nostalgic about my ocean childhood... the wauling of gulls and the smell of salt, somebody solicitous will bundle me into a car and drive me to the nearest briny horizon."
Sylvia Plath
"The place is stunning. I loved opening the doors first thing in the morning and having my morning cuppa whilst listening to the waves. The main bedroom is especially breathtaking. I would quite happily live here forever."
Debbie. J
"We spent one of the most heavenly weekends here. The place is beautiful. Every detail has been thought of. It’s quiet, but there’s still life on the beach. The views from the house are stunning, from the beach they’re equally so."
Jane Carroll
"Everything is so well thought out and sustainability is such a big focus. We walked on the beach and chilled in the snug when it rained. The beds are so comfy and the kitchen had everything we needed to cook lovely meals. In the evening we toasted marshmallows and drank wine around the firepit."

"No cars, bars or arcades. Perfect, pure escapism."
"Though its floor-to-ceiling windows, both upstairs and down, frame tempting shots of the banks beyond, its raw, rosy-hued interior - inspired by the surrounding landscape - makes staying in an equally appealing prospect."
The Sandy Feet Retreat is perfect for young families, from toddlers to free-range teenagers. The beach is clean, safe and crowd-free. The water is shallow and shelves gently out to sea. The house is private and secluded with an enclosed garden.
Complimentary water sports equipment, just 10 metres from Anderby Creek beach, as well as a nature reserve with sand dunes to explore and wildlife to spot, the house is in a dream location for a seaside family holiday. Also, as parents with a young family ourselves, we have tried to cater for other families like us, so everyone gets a break.
Baby & Toddler Equipment
You'll find a high chair - travel cot - night light - step-ups (for little legs to reach sinks and toilets) - potty and toilet training seat - shock resistant plates, bowls and tumblers - sip spout trainer cups - kids' cutlery, books and toys.
Best Rooms For Families
The little bunk room is ideal for small children (sleeps up to 3 little ones in bunk beds and a pull-out trundle bed); the rear bedroom (double) is better for older children; the master suite is best for the travel cot as it's the largest.
Parents Should Know
There are steep steps from the sunbathing deck down to the patio. The wooden sleepers around the fire pit are a potential trip hazard - keep an eye on small children when the fire is lit. There's no stair gate due to the sliding door arrangement. The little bunk room is a squeeze if sleeping 3.
